When is Kingston Hospital Charity’s Walk This Way?

Walk This Way will take place on Saturday, 5 September. The start times of the event will depend on the chosen route length, with longer routes setting off earlier so that all participants can complete their walk by 5:30 – 7:00 pm.

02

How will my support make a difference?

Your fundraising helps Kingston Hospital Charity acquire medical equipment, create patient-centred spaces and fund innovations that go above and beyond what NHS funding alone can provide, improving healthcare across our community for patients, families, and staff.

03

How much are tickets?

Tickets cost £20 for adults and £10 for under-18s. A limited early-bird discount of £7.50 and £5, respectively, is available for a limited time.

All three routes are the same price, reflecting event delivery rather than the distance you choose to walk. The sign-up fee covers the cost of your T-shirt, event staffing, safety measures, signage, and overall organisation.

04

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs on leads are welcome.

05

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, a hat, an umbrella, sunglasses, sunscreen, and anything else you may need, but please bear in mind that there will be no bag drop, so please bring only what you want to carry.

06

Will there be refreshments?

There will be water points and light snacks along the route, but please do bring your own water and refillable container. There will be food retailers at Canbury Gardens.

07

Do I need to raise a minimum amount?

Yes. Walk This Way is a fundraising event, and we ask each participant to commit to fundraising at least £100.

Walk Routes Explained

3.5 Mile Route (16.00 start time)

The ‘short route’ is just over three and a half miles and offers a gentle, fully accessible riverside experience starting from Canbury Gardens. From here, you will walk along a peaceful stretch of the Thames Path following the river towards Teddington, where you will see Teddington Lock, a historic landmark built in 1810, which marks the boundary between the tidal and non-tidal Thames. It comprises three locks, including the largest Barge lock on the Thames.

You will cross the famous lock footbridge built in 1899, which has excellent views of the Weir. You will then take a return route via Broom Road through Hampton Wick before crossing Kingston Bridge back to Canbury Gardens.

7.5 Mile Route (14:00 start time)

The ‘medium walk’. is approximately seven miles long. The first three miles follow the river path, passing Teddington Lock and the grounds of 17th-century Ham House and Gardens, a National Trust attraction.

You will cut through Petersham Meadows, which were famously depicted in paintings by the artist William Turner, where cattle can still be seen grazing to this day. You will then walk through the historic tree-lined Ham Avenues before returning to the river at Teddington Lock and back to the finish at Canbury Gardens.

15 Mile Route (12.00 midday start time)

The’ long walk’ is approximately 15 miles, and continues on after the 7.5mile route turn off, from Petersham to Richmond, where you will pass the magnificent buildings on Richmond waterfront designed by Quinlan Terry. You will then continue alongside the Old Deer Park and a delightful, wooded section of the path before reaching the walls and railing guarding Kew Gardens.

When you reach Kew, you will cross the bridge and follow towards Brentford before turning into the tranquillity of Syon Park. It is here that you will see the magnificent Syon House with its Stone lions, the west London residence of the Duke of Northumberland.

You will then rejoin the river path across the elegant stretch of Isleworth Promenade and continue to St Margarets before following the Thames path again to Twickenham and back via Teddington Lock to Canbury Gardens.
