Kingston Hospital is proud to introduce the Biolitec Leonardo Mini Laser System, an innovative development in minimally invasive colorectal treatment. This compact and highly versatile device works with a wide range of specialised medical fibres and application kits, allowing surgeons to carry out precise laser‑based procedures for conditions affecting the anus, rectum, and colon. Its introduction marks an important step in expanding the hospital’s capacity to offer modern treatments that are kinder to patients and more efficient for clinical teams.

Many colorectal conditions, including anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus disease, have traditionally been treated with open surgery. While effective, these operations often involve significant postoperative discomfort, longer healing times, and a need for several days in hospital. The new laser system transforms this experience by delivering controlled energy through ultra‑fine fibres directly to the affected tissue, reducing trauma to surrounding structures. Patients typically experience less pain, faster recovery, and far less disruption to their daily lives, with many able to return home the same day.

The ability to perform some laser treatments in a clinic procedure room rather than a full operating theatre also provides important operational benefits, freeing theatre space for more complex surgeries and improving patient flow. It will make a genuine difference to our patients’ comfort, wellbeing, and overall experience of care, while allowing us to deliver treatment more efficiently.”
