14 recliner chairs have been bought for use on Kingston Hospital’s elderly care, orthopaedic and surgical wards, where previously there was a critical lack of appropriate seating for patients.

For elderly patients, this specialist seating reduces patient falls and pressure ulcers and prevents weakening of muscles.  For patients on the orthopaedic wards, sitting out of bed for short periods helps them to regain their mobility and strength, reducing the length of stay.  These chairs are also important for patients on the surgical wards who have been in intensive care and who require additional support due to intensive care unit acquired weakness.
