Kingston Hospital’s maternity department’s ten labour ward rooms all now include a new recliner chair, thanks to the fundraising efforts of new parent Garett Farrell and donations from The Friends of Kingston Hospital and the Wimbledon District Nursing and Midwifery Benevolent Society.

These recliners will provide women with a comfortable place to rest as needed while in labour. They also offer a supportive option for a healthy posture for those who have just given birth, as well as a safe seating position when feeding their baby in the first few hours after birth.

These recliners are also used by birth partners for rest and comfort, particularly overnight, as many will spend long hours on the labour ward.

Labour Ward Team Leader, Michelle Graham said The maternity team’s philosophy of care is to provide a supportive environment to the family at this important time by providing care and facilities, including these wonderful new reclining chairs. Doing so enables the best start for the baby and parents to encourage attachment and bonding. We are grateful to Kingston Hospital Charity and their supporters for providing the monies to enable us to purchase a recliner for each of our labour ward rooms.”

Many congratulations to Zoe and Thomas (pictured) on the birth of their little boy.
