Thanks to the generous support of our local community, our birth centre in the maternity department at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust now has a fourth birthing pool, improving its capacity to provide this option to all women wishing to use hydrotherapy during labour.

Women choose a birthing pool to help reduce the need for stronger forms of pain relief during labour. Immersion in warm water supports buoyancy, which eases pressure on the spine and pelvis, helping to facilitate a normal birth. In the 2019-20 financial year, the Maternity Unit delivered 4,976 babies.

Kingston Hospital Charity is now raising funds to equip the maternity department with two new reclining chairs. These special nursing chairs are ergonomically designed so that it is comfortable and soothing for a new mum to feed her baby in.
