The medical photography room in the Princess Alexandra Wing is a small space with a big impact. More than 1,100 patients use the service every year, people undergoing cancer investigations, children attending dermatology appointments, and patients from breast care, plastics and ENT. The images taken here guide vital clinical decisions and help track changes over time.

Whilst the room was functional, it was in real need of some much‑needed TLC to enhance the experience for both patients and staff. Many people arrive feeling anxious, sometimes ahead of major surgery, and the environment plays an important role in helping them feel calm and reassured.

Thanks to Kingston Hospital Charity support, the room has been fully refurbished, replacing worn flooring, repainting tired walls, improving storage, and creating a neutral, calming space that better supports accurate clinical photography. Upgraded lighting and a new dermatoscope will also ensure clearer images and a more comfortable experience for patients.

This may seem like a small project, but for the 1,120 people who walk into this room each year, often during some of the most vulnerable moments, it will make a world of difference. Charitable support has created a space that feels reassuring, and giving staff the environment they need to deliver outstanding care.
