Despite restrictions for COVID-19 still being in place for the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2021, Kingston Hospital Charity was delighted to have 14 runners participate in this closed-road race. A firm favourite in any runner’s diary, it is the only half marathon that runs through both the City of London and City of Westminster.

Huge thanks go to all our runners that included David Hignett, Rafael Avazedo, Oliver Neely, Imy Neely, Peter Hellawell, Freya Walker, Paul Chiappe, Sacha Newman, Adriano Brago, Tom Sutcliffe, Anna Joseph, Banessa Ayangco, Rob Aldous and Maddie Aldous. Everyone successfully completed the course and congratulations to Oliver Neely who ran over the finishing line in a very impressive one hour and 20 minutes.  Thanks go to everyone for their fundraising efforts that raised over £9,000 for Kingston Hospital Charity.

The event is not your average half marathon as it races past cultural and heritage landmarks, from the quirky and hidden to the grand and famous – a route through the capital like no other!  Starting by The Strand and finishing at Downing Street, the fabulous views of London’s iconic buildings include Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, Shard, Tower of London and the London Eye.

Rob Aldous, Director of Kingston Hospital Charity and a participant, said “I enjoy running about twice a week but this was my first half marathon event. The atmosphere on the day was electric and it was wonderful to run through the city on closed roads – probably one of the few opportunities that you will ever have. It really feels like an enormous achievement and the noise of the crowd really motivated me right through to the end. As a large-scale event, it was superbly organised and I highly recommend it!

On behalf of all the runners and the Charity, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their generosity.  It is this amazing community support that makes Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust what it is today, so thank you again.
