Kingston Hospital’s CEO, Jo Farrar, was joined by Dr Shao Chong, a consultant in intensive care, Antonio Scazzarriello, a nurse practitioner in the Royal Eye Unit and Kingston Hospital Charity’s Director, Rob Aldous, as they took on the RideLondon 100-mile cycle challenge on Sunday 28 May, raising over £4,000 between them for Kingston Hospital.

Dr Chong was delighted to finish in a time of 5 hours 34 minutes and acknowledged:
I was very excited to challenge myself and take on RideLondon-Essex 100 and fundraise in support of the new 21 bed intensive care unit that is to be built at Kingston Hospital. This will replace the current unit which is about 50 years old. Charitable monies are needed to ensure we provide the very best care environment for our patients and their families. Monies I raised are to help towards the proposed sky garden, as this is a key component in delivering the ideal critical care environment, allowing patients to rehabilitate while accessing nature.

“It was such a privilege to cycle 100-miles on traffic-free roads. The sun shone and I am very grateful to all who generously sponsored me. My colleagues and I are greatly looking forward to working in this new environment once the building is completed in 2025.”

Jo Farrar had planned to participate in last year’s event but had to withdraw a few days before after contracting COVID-19.  Jo was delighted to complete the sportive in 6 hours 38 minutes and said:

“It was great to cross the finish line on Tower Bridge and to complete this 100-mile cycle challenge after missing out in 2022. My fundraising efforts have been  focused on supporting some of my colleagues who are committed to ensuring that as a hospital we minimise waste and our impact on the environment.” </em>

The 2023 Ford RideLondon-Essex 100 took cyclists from London’s Victoria Embankment, past the Olympic Park and out into the Essex countryside, travelling as far north as Great Dunmow, before finishing at Tower Bridge.
