Andrew Pedder, Orthopaedics Team Leader at Kingston Hospital, is embarking on a remarkable journey to support Kingston Hospital Charity by undertaking a challenge every month during 2025. Igniting a new found fondness for endurance sports, Andrew completed the Race to the Stones last year after being introduced to running by his colleague Ian Gill. Despite having only a few 5k runs under his belt at the start of last year, Andrew has since conquered two ultramarathons and is now fully committed to his new passion.
Andrew shared, “Having always been into fitness and sport, rather than just sticking to running, the challenge of completing in multiple sports has driven me to Triathlon training with a view to completing a full Ironman before the age of 38. This year’s Challenge 12 will not only push me physically but will also help me raise money for the charity that does so many great things across the hospital.”
Reflecting on his fundraising efforts, “Having raised some funds for the charity last year and seeing the impact that this will have on our future patients and staff makes it worthwhile. With the funds raised last year we are currently planning on having a skylight fitted in the orthopaedic outpatient department that will benefit our patients, making them feel more at ease and distracted whilst undergoing treatment. Not only this, but I also see many other projects running across the hospital that have such a vital impact for our patients, and I want to be a part of it.”
Andrew has already successfully completed his first two challenges, the Dorney Half Marathon and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park 22k Trail Run, achieving his target times. His most looked forward to challenge is the Race to the King 100k ultramarathon in June, which will be his most demanding and longest race to date. Below is the full list of events Andrew is planning to undertake.
“I don’t want to lull myself into a false sense of security, having completed the easier challenges in the first two months of the year. The upcoming challenges will be tougher, but I am ready to face them,” he added.
