A new Optiflow machine was delivered to the Critical Care Outreach team on 13 March thanks to the generous support of Keith and Marlyn Fraser’s family and friends. In celebration of their silver wedding anniversary, Marlyn requested donations to purchase this equipment, rather than presents.

Because the oxygen is delivered via a small nasal canula, Optiflow is less invasive than a face mask. This allows the patient to eat, drink and communicate while receiving high-flow oxygen. As a result, it is very well tolerated by patients, is more comfortable and improves levels of oxygenation. Optiflow can also help to reduce a patient’s length of stay in hospital.
