City event and family portrait photographer, Andy Sillett, launched his Doortraits4NHS project during lockdown, after photographing frontline nurses at Kingston Hospital. The concept is a simple one – in return for a free doorstep portrait, families are asked to make a discretionary donation to Kingston Hospital Charity to support our staff on the frontline.
As Andy explains “social distancing guidelines are strictly maintained at all times and it’s fun to see the variety of styles, ranging from lockdown casual to very bizarre costumes. People are delighted to have a record of how they are spending lockdown, and who they are spending it with, including their pets.”
Our thanks to Andy who has been kept busy, raising over £3,000 from his Doortraits4NHS – a brilliant effort.
A national campaign has now been launched encouraging photographers around the country to offer free doorstep portraits to help support NHS staff at their local hospitals. The aim is eventually to hold an exhibition and publish a book to raise more funds, as well as provide a historic portrait of Britain during the coronavirus pandemic.
